Statement Commemorating 55th Anniversary of the Establishment of ASEAN Will Be Issued Today

PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister Hun Sen, the 2022 ASEAN Chairman, has confirmed that a statement commemorating the establishment of ASEAN on its 55th anniversary will be issued today.

On Friday, 11 November 2022, Prime Minister Hun Sen welcomed the leaders of ASEAN member states and all participating partners in his opening remarks for the 40th and 41st ASEAN Summits. He added that this year marks the 55th anniversary of the establishment of ASEAN, and to commemorate this historic milestone, ASEAN will release the ASEAN Leaders’ Statement, complimented by two others – the ASEAN Leaders’ Vision Statement on ASEAN A.C.T: Addressing Challenges Together, and the ASEAN Leaders’ Statement on ASEAN Connectivity Post-2025 Agenda.

Prime Minister Hun Sen stated that these policy guides affirm ASEAN’s resolve to building a future community that is united, inclusive, resilient and rules-based. These guidelines also play an essential role in shaping the rapidly evolving region and in strengthening relations with external partners based on mutual trust and respect for regional and global peace, security, and sustainable growth.
